CONCEPT Under Pressure: New Works by Patrick Toups
Two-dimensional Recordings of the Interaction between Iron and Canvas.

Artist Talk: Saturday, July 19th, 2pm.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Patrick Toups spent his early years growing up in North Carolina. After attending public school, Toups made his way to East Carolina University where he studied under Carl Billingsley and Hanna Jubran intensely for four years as a sculptor. There he developed a great passion for the foundry process and was introduced to iron casting. Being surrounded by an experimental environment pushed Toups to develop a flexible yet pragmatic approach to viewing, perceiving and making art.

After receiving his Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2005, Toups began working in central Florida at the American Bronze Fine Art Foundry. During his tenure in Florida, Toups formed the Performance Iron Guild. "PIG", organizes community events exploring metal arts. During this time Toups worked on research and development for new methods and materials that have been utilize in the work you see today.
